Orville Herbert Athey

Orville Herbert Athey, 82, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. He was born on October 1, 1941, in Beckley, West Virginia, to the late Orville Athey and Brada Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathern Athey; his son, James Athey; his daughter, Audrey Hawkins; and one grandson, Brandon Athey.

Orville enjoyed driving trucks and heavy equipment. He found pleasure in working outside in the yard at his home. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Orville is survived by his son, Kirk Athey; five grandchildren, Brooke, Morgan, Anthony, Courtney, and Eric; six great-grandchildren, Cameron, Kendall, Caden, Isaac, Dawson, Tucker, Maisie, and Aubrey; three sisters, Sherry Holden (Donald), Roxanna Simmons, and Mary Bennett; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Tommy Newman. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
