Oty Dean Barbour

Oty Dean Barbour, age 90, of Chatham, VA entered into rest on Saturday, October 17, 2026, while a resident of Riverstone Senior Living, Danville, VA. Mr. Barbour was born July 1, 1936, in Pittsylvania County to the late Dora Guthrie Barbour and the late Billy B. Barbour.

He moved to Newport News, VA as a young adult. There, he began a long and dedicated career at the Newport News Shipyard, retiring after more than 40 years. Dean was a dedicated member of the Full Gospel Worship Center where he faithfully worshipped and served.

Dean is survived by his son, Jimmy Barbour of Deltona, FL, brothers Billy G. Barbour, Glenn Barbour, and sister, Brenda Edwards (Roger) of Chatham, VA.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary Dudley, a son, Tommy Barbour, a brother, Ronald Barbour, and a sister, Yvonne McDaniel.

A Graveside Service honoring the life and legacy of Mr. Barbour will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Sheva Church of Christ Cemetery, 4920 Chalk Level Road, Chatham, VA 24531, with Pastor Dean Anderson officiating. Burial will follow the graveside service.
