Patricia "Patty" Albright Doss Childress

August 26, 1946 - September 14, 2024

Patricia Albright “Patty” Doss Childress passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2024, in Centra Lynchburg General Hospital where she had been a patient for several days. Born August 26, 1946, in Smyth County, Marion, VA, she was the daughter of the late Paul Dexter Albright and the late Beulah Wassum Albright. Patty was a 1964 graduate of George Washington High School, Danville, VA and attended Ferrum College.

She was employed by the Danville Register & Bee as an administrative assistant and retired after 28 years of service. Patty also was a consultant for BeautiControl Cosmetics for a number of years. She was the epitome of grace and beauty. Patty was a dedicated mother and homemaker, believing very strongly in nightly family dinners when her children were young, and everyone enjoyed and remembered her chocolate pies and desserts.

She was a member of West Main Baptist Church, Danville, VA, and formerly a long-time member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church, Danville VA, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a former member of the adult worship choir and the handbell ensemble. While a member of Mount Hermon Baptist, she served on a mission team to Honduras.

Patty is survived by a daughter, Jamie Doss Owens and husband, Mike of Sutherlin, VA; a son, Matt Doss and wife, Lori of Danville, VA, and her grandchildren, Caroline Grace Doss, Madelyn Lea Doss, and Mason Anthony Owens all of Danville, VA. She is also survived by the father of her children, James “Mack” Doss of Danville, VA.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert Childress.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA, with the Reverend Terry St. John officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday, September 16, 2024. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of her son, 111 Madison Avenue, Danville, VA. A private interment will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Wassum Family Cemetery, Marion, VA, at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.

In the early stages of her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease, she was provided exceptional care by Ann Marie Taylor, Chenise Blackwell, and Peggy East, for which the family will be forever grateful. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Runk & Pratt - Pearls of Life and Leesville Road facilities, Lynchburg, VA for the compassionate care shown to Patty while a resident of these facilities. A special thank you to the nursing staff in the Comfort Care Unit of Centra Lynchburg General Hospital for every act of kindness and care they provided while she was a patient there.
