Patsy Owen Oakes

Patsy Owen Oakes, 84, of Danville, VA, and recently of Berry Hill Nursing & Rehab, South Boston, VA, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024. She was born on June 26, 1939, in Danville, to the late Clyde Owen and the late Annie Barbour Owen Montgomery. She was married to the late Shirley Alfred Oakes, who she married on June 6, 1957. He predeceased her on February 4, 2010, after 52 years of marriage. Patsy was a very active member of North Danville Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday School teacher. She loved to play cards and do word search books. She was a high school graduate of Whitmell Farm Life School, and a devoted homemaker all her married life.

Patsy is survived by her son, Ricky Lee Oakes of Roanoke, VA, brother, Stan Owen (Lenny) of Martinsville, VA, grandchildren Jeremy Oakes and Barbara Brooke Dean (Joseph), and great-grandchildren, Adrianna Oakes and Lucas Oakes. She is also survived by RaVonda Davis of Ringgold, VA, a former precious daughter-in-law, as well as a multitude of friends that were deeply loved.

In addition to her husband and parents, Patsy was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Henry and Sudie Owen, who raised her.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2024, at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel, 511 Church Ave., Danville, VA 24541 officiated by Pastor Hershel Stone and Tim Oakes. Interment will follow the funeral service at Highland Burial Park, Danville.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. also on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the West End Chapel of Norris Funeral Services. At other times the family will receive friends at her home 105 Eastwood Drive, Danville.
