Patsye Harris Smith
Patsye Harris Smith, 96, of Ridgeway, Va. passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024. She was born in Wythe County, Va. January 30, 1928 to Robert Dewey Harris, Sr. and Leta Catron Harris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, Harry Lee Smith, who passed in 2016; sisters, Vivian Burnop and Bonnie Harmon Stinson; brothers, Fred Dewey Harris and Robert Dewey Harris, Jr. She is survived by her son, Michael Smith and his wife, Brenda; grandsons, Jason Smith and his wife, Lindsay, and Tyler Smith; great grandchildren, Hudson and Easton Smith.Patsye was the last surviving member of her graduating class at Rural Retreat High School. Prior to the birth of Michael, she worked at the local shirt factory in Rural Retreat and later for Lacy Manufacturing in Martinsville, Va. She loved being a seamstress and continued to sew for her family later in life. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and was a homemaker who enjoyed watching over and caring for many of the neighborhood children when Michael was growing up. Patsye loved her family. Her son, Mike, was the “apple of her eye”. She was also very proud of and dearly loved her grandsons and great grandsons.She also enjoyed accompanying Harry and helping him when he was painting people’s houses during his off time from working at Dupont. Later in life, Patsye enjoyed visiting yard sales and flea markets with her friends, during her search for glassware which she collected.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Roselawn Burial Park and will be officiated by Pastor Clyde Murray.The Smith family greatly appreciates the many acts of love and kindness provided by Kim Moore, Verna Zapata, Lula Scales and Ikeshia Harris, who were excellent long-term caregivers for Patsye.
