Peggy Crockett

August 25, 1933 - July 15, 2023

Peggy K. Crockett, 89, of Craig County, Va., passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, after a valiant fight with cancer.

She was born in High Point, N.C. on August 25, 1933, an only child, to Hubert and Ruby Kanoy. After attending VCU (RPI), she received her certification in occupational therapy in 1957, and immediately started with the Veterans Administration. This career lasted 40 years, finally retiring as Chief of the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem, Va. It was at VCU she met the love of her life, Glen, who she would be married to for 59 years until his passing in 2015. Peggy joined the LDS church in 1961 and was active in the Relief Society and helped teach in the young women's program. She had many friends that she enjoyed spending time with, going to craft shows, flea markets, and yard sales, and on the top of her list was just sharing good food at a favorite restaurant with friends and family. An awesome cook to say the least, her cooking will be missed by all who ever tasted her creations. She was a member in good standing of the "Fabulous Five," and will surely be missed. All who knew her just loved her for being so personable, sweet, and kind. What a huge void her passing will leave in our hearts. Peggy loved her family, spending as much time as she could with Mark, Lee, and her grandchildren.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Ruby Kanoy; husband, Glen; and favorite dog and cat, Brownie and Safari.

Surviving to cherish her memory are children, Mark and his wife, Elizabeth, and Lee and his wife, Yumi; and grandchildren, Mitchell, Kentaro and wife, Abby, Hiroyuki, Maxwell, and Michael.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Peggy’s caregiver, Laura. We will forever be grateful for her services.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.
