Peggy Johnston Evans

March 15, 1951 - May 1, 2024

Peggy Jean Johnston Evans, 73, passed away on May 1, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, Grammy, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.Peggy was born on March 15, 1951 in Roanoke, VA. She attended Wasena Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Jr High and Patrick Henry High School, class of 1969. As a 13-year-old eighth grader, she had an initial encounter on Dec 4, 1964, with the future love of her life, Bob. The two would eventually marry on August 19, 1972.Along with raising her two rambunctious and somewhat challenging children, Peggy worked for 20 years as the “do it all” secretary at Grandin Court Elementary School. She continued to work part-time for the Roanoke City School system as an administrative assistant for 12 more years. In her free time she enjoyed sharing her angelic singing voice as a founding member of the choral ensemble, Deo Gloria, along with Bob and some of their dearest friends. The group traveled throughout the region, singing, performing and occasionally sipping on fine (and some not so fine) wine for more than 2 decades. In 2012, Peggy and Bob would take their first trip down to Baja, Mexico. They would promptly fall in love with the region and purchase their 2nd home, two years later, near the small town of Los Barriles, where they spent winter months for ten years. After her untimely Glioblastoma Multiforme diagnosis in the Spring of 2023, she was cared for by Bob at their home on Smith Mountain Lake until it became too difficult for him to manage her care on his own. She lived the last 4 months of her life at the Runk and Pratt assisted living facility not far from their home on the lake. She was visited often by friends and family with Bob by her side daily.Peggy is survived by her husband, Bob, her children, Jeff (Merry Beth) and Chris (Kristin), her grandchildren, Rhys, Jace, Rachel, her great grandchildren Alex and Addison, as well as her sister/best friend, Vicki, cousins, nieces, nephews, and special little girl, Arden.A private celebration of life will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to either Franklin County Humane Society or Cortez Rescue, both important to Peggy.Arrangements by Conner-Bowman Funeral Home & Crematory, 62 VA Market Place Drive, Rocky Mount, VA 24151
