Pencie Compton Young

September 24, 1940 - June 29, 2026

Pencie Compton Young, 85, of Blairs, Virginia passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026 at her residence in Blairs, after a 3 year long battle with medical issues. She was born on September 24, 1940 in Long Island, VA to the late Marshall and Sarah Dunaway Compton.

Her religious faith was central to her entire life, with her favorite passage being Rev. 14:6-13. She was baptized at the age of fourteen and was an active member of The Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Piney Forest Road, Danville, VA.

She was a teacher for forty-four years before she retired. She loved teaching and was passionate about giving each student the best possible start on their lifelong path of learning.

Mrs. Young is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bob Young, of the residence; sister; Delma Miller (Ralph); brothers; James (Karen), David (Donna), Simon (Susan); sisters-in-law; Jean Compton of Hampton, GA, Bonnie Little (Harvey) of Pelham, NC, Edna Young of Stanley, VA, Dot (Dorothy) Young of Shenandoah, VA; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by her sisters; Jean Hicks (Joe), Cora Campbell (William), Pauline Reed (Jerry); brothers; Riley (Jeane), Jack (Jean), and John (Bonnie); brothers-in-law; Jennings Young, Thomas Young; sisters-in-law; Phyllis Young Alger, Millie Young of Stanley, VA, Karen Hubbard Compton of PA; as well as numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at 3:00pm at The Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1543 Piney Forest Road, Danville, VA 24540 with Pastor Griselda Jobe officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA. A visitation will be held on the same day, just prior to the service from 2-3:00pm also at The Seventh Day Adventist Church. At other times the family will receive friends and guest at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency, global humanitarian organization of SDA Church, 12501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Springs, MD 20904), or Fire Dept. of your choice, or to Gods Storehouse of Danville, VA.
