Perry Holland

Perry Holland, 85 of Glade Hill, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023 at his home due to a long illness with Dementia. He was born July 19, 1937 to the late Peter Lewis and Flossie Altice Holland of Glade Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie M. Holland; brothers, Everett, Harvey, Claude and infant brother, Alvin Lewis Holland; special son-in-law, Charles Bollings; friend, Jami Simpkins; brothers-in-law, Clegard Dillon and Tony Simpson; and sister-in-law, Ann Holland. Surviving are his sons, Keith Holland (Lisa) and Melvin Holland; daughters, Cindy Holland Templin (Harvey) and Carolyn Holland Bollings; grandsons, Steve St.Clair (Jen), Brandon Chitwood (Melia) Ryan Bollings (Dora) and Nick Bollings; granddaughters, Danielle Holland (Jonathan), Olivia Holland and Alexis Bollings; great-grandchildren, Leah, Kyra, Aiden and Auria St.Clair, Reid, Sawyer and Elsie Chitwood, Brayden Goodman, and Wesson and Bristol Smith; sister, Ruby Dillon; brother, Walter Holland; brothers-in-law, John Simpson ( Diane), JW Simpson and Arthur Simpson; sister-in-law, Bonny Wheeler (Phil); special friends, Tony, Anita and Audrey Van-Lieus and numerous nieces and nephews. Perry was a long-time member of Wirtz Assembly of God Church. He was born during the Great Depression where his parents raised and instilled simple and old fashion values and hard work that he carried with him his whole life. He worked for 3M National Advertising Company as a truck driver before joining Boone’s Welding where he gained the knowledge to become a welder. This led him to joining Ironworkers Local 697, Roanoke and later Local 28, Richmond where he spent 35+ years as a skilled Ironworker. He worked for companies such as Hawkins and Cox and IDK Inc. He earned the names of “lil” Skeets and “lil” Holland. He gained amazing hand strength by tying rebar which enabled him to be able to rip a brand new deck of playing cards in half still in the wrapper. After retiring in 1999, he could be found watching westerns, cutting firewood and walking the family farm. He carved numerous trees with his family’s initials. He also enjoyed relaxing in the woods against a tree with a can of beanee weanees, crackers and a Pepsi. He took pride in his family and loved each and every one unconditionally. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Holland Family Cemetery located at 220 Holland Farms Lane, Glade Hill, VA. 24092. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the graveside at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Denver Turner will be officiating. Pallbearers are Keith Holland, Melvin Holland, Brandon Chitwood, Ryan Bollings, Nick Bollings, Steve St. Clair and Everett Dillon. Perry’s family would like to thank Carilion Hospice and caregivers from Burwell Private Care for the care he received during his illness.
