Peter Delford Parsons, Jr.
Peter Delford Parsons Jr., 83, of New Castle, Va., and formerly of Clay, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Peter worked as a construction blaster and coal miner until retiring from Fola Coal Company. He served as a deacon at Rogers Fork Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing, playing music (especially the banjo and guitar), and was a member of a traveling gospel group with his brother, Lewis Parsons. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking. Many will remember him as a jokester as he loved playing tricks on those he loved and especially his nieces, nephews, and cousins while growing up.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Delford Pete and Lyda Hensley Parsons; brothers, William “Bill” Hensley, Charles Parsons, Paul Parsons, Lewis Parsons, and Dennis Parsons; sisters, Nina “Tiny” Dunn and Mary Thornsbury; daughter, Melissa Ann Parsons Browning; and beloved dog of 19 years, Woody.
His surviving family includes his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth Ann Parsons of New Castle, Va.; daughter, Sara Lynn Argabright and husband, Darren, of Salem, Va.; brother, Garnett Bane of Cowen, W.Va.; grandchildren, Joshua Argabright of Salem, Va., and Jacob Argabright of Blacksburg, Va.; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Parsons.
The family thanks special friends and neighbors, Johnny Jackson and Wayne Belcher of New Castle Va., Palliative Care unit at Carilion RMH, and the Craig County Rescue Squad for all the love and care given to Peter.
Per his wishes, his cremated remains will be laid to rest privately at a later date in Sunset Cemetery in Bickmore W.Va. In lieu of flowers, cards may be sent to Ruth Parsons at 377 Commerce Avenue in New Castle, Va. 24127. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
