Petronila Reyes Sandoval

Petronila Reyes Sandoval, 91, of Glade Hill, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. She was born January 19, 1935, in Managua, Nicaragua, to the late Atanacio Reyes and Susana Flores.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Javier Penaflores; two sisters, Isabel Barahona and Eva Reyes-Tenesaca; and one brother, Adan Reyes Flores.

Petronila was of the Catholic faith and was a hardworking woman who dedicated more than 30 years to sewing at Platt Luggage. She had a sharp mind and was known for always knowing when something was missing or out of place. She had a love for gardening, especially tending to her flower garden and roses. Petronila also loved to dance and enjoyed salsa dancing and would tear the dance floor up with her husband. Above all, she loved her family and found great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her laughter, her joking spirit, her willingness to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, and being a hard worker.

She is survived by her daughter, Susana Sandoval-Cerna (Juan); two brothers, Bernardo Reyes Flores and Atanacio Reyes Flores; three grandchildren, Eddie Cerna (Brenda), Raul Cerna, and Alex Cerna; two great-grandchildren, Sofia Cerna and Gabriella Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Although services will be private, the family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and care shown during this time of grief.
