Phyllis Kay Eastman
Phyllis Kay Eastman, more fondly known as Kay, lived a full and meaningful life. Born May of 1938 in Southern Illinois farm country, she found love at Southern Illinois University with Donald Eastman. They married and together they built a family. Kay and Don shared a deep and enduring bond that was evident in their long-lasting relationship and is a testament to their love and commitment to each other.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, her 3 children (Joyce Rodrigue, Donna Scott, and Elmer Eastman), 4 grandchildren (Brandi Chandler, Jocelyn Rodrigue, Adron Eastman, and Amelia Eastman), 7 great-grandchildren (Kaylee, Trinity, Tryston, Madilyn, India, Meredith, and Everly), and 2 great-great-grandchildren (Karlie and Kinsley), and a sister (Martha).
Kay’s career spanned various administrative roles in schools, manufacturing, and legal sectors. Her compassion and Christian faith were evident in her genuine efforts to help those in need, and in teaching that faith to her children. When her children were young, she would get her children together for daily prayer and made sure that they attended church to instill a strong biblical foundation. She also had a passion for gardening, finding joy in taking care of her plants and flowers.
She leaves behind many wonderful memories and life lessons to her family. She would save her old pocketbooks and place money in various pockets bringing so much joy and surprise to her great-granddaughter, Kaylee. Kay taught her children to budget using labeled envelopes to divide their allowance teaching them the foundation of financial responsibility. It’s these special, personal touches that create lasting memories and show how much she cared for her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Terrace View Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Terrace View Baptist Church or New London Academy.
