Priscilla Ann Diggs
Mrs. Priscilla Baxley Diggs, 85, of Critz, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Mrs. Diggs was born on June 16, 1941 in Richmond County, North Carolina to the late William Benson Baxley and Ruth Leach Baxley. She graduated with a two-year degree from Wingate University, a bachelor’s degree in education from Appalachian State University, and a master’s degree in counseling from The University of Virginia. Priscilla went on to have a long and distinguished career in education as both an educator and guidance counselor in the Patrick County School System until her retirement in 2001. She enjoyed reading, doing word searches and crossword puzzles, spending time with her family, and spending time at the beach. You could often find her volunteering at the schools of her grandchildren for many years after her retirement, continuing to give back to her community. She was also a member of Stella Christian Church in Spencer.
Mrs. Diggs is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Herbert Clinton Diggs, JR; children Darren Diggs (Sheila) and Donna Stowe (Jody); grandchildren Daniel Chandler (Kaitlyn), Seth Chandler (Amber), Wesley Diggs, and Austin Stowe; great grandchildren Cooper Chandler, Sophie Chandler, Adalynn Chandler, and Emmett Chandler; brother Danny Baxley (Suzanne); and a host of nieces and nephews.
Priscilla was a light to everyone in her life; she was a dedicated wife and mother, a loving grandmother, and a loyal friend. She will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to the people she loved, the kindness she showed to all, and the massive impact she had on students over the span of her decades long career in education.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26 at 2pm at Norris Funeral Services at 129 Howell Lane, Stuart, Virginia - 24171. Services will be led by Preacher Steve Hayes. The family will receive friends and relatives from 1pm to 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations go to the Patrick County Alzheimer’s Group or Mountain Valley Hospice Care.
