Rachel Johnson Barnes

Rachel Johnson Barnes, 77, of Bassett, Virginia, transitioned to her heavenly home on July 12, 2024. She was born on October 4, 1946, to the late Delmas and Bertha Johnson of Bassett. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James (Jimmy) Barnes Jr; son, Joseph Barnes; and sister, Patricia Anne Johnson.

She leaves two daughters, Ginger McGee and Amy Barnes (Vince); two sons, Jason Barnes and Andrew Barnes (Dani); eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Anna Gauldin (Bill) to cherish her memory.

She was a member at First Baptist Church in Bassett, Virginia and attended faithfully until her health declined. She enjoyed bowling. She was a loving mother and grandmother to her family and prayed for everyone every day.

The service will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 1:00 PM, at Bassett Funeral Service, with Pastor Doug Ramsey and Monroe Light, officiating. The family will accept friends one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
