Randy Wade Maddox

November 30, 1960 - December 28, 2024

Randy Wade Maddox, 64, of Amherst passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024.

Randy was born November 30, 1960, to his loving parents Elbert and Sandra Maddox; he was the definition of first born and mama’s boy. He was a proud big brother and would drop anything when he was called or texted. Randy was a born and raised Amherst man and true patron to The Filling Station. Randy loved the outdoors, working in his garden, hunting, fishing, camping, floating the river, or just “walking his kingdom”. Randy hit his prime at Amherst County High School, Class of ’79. In his words, he was ‘the greatest athlete in the world’, competing in Track and Field, and the football team. Randy continued his love for football at Ferrum College. Randy then chose to put his education before athletics, and returned ‘home’, earning his degree from Lynchburg College. Randy demonstrated his strong work ethic at Maddox Land and Lumber Company, Allen Morrison, Debold, and dedicated the last 20 years at Industrial Products Company/Endries.

Randy was recently asked his best marriage advice, and his response was “Family is everything.” Randy was a family man and took every chance he could to bring us together. He dedicated his time and jumped at the opportunity to spend time with his brother, uncles, cousins, and nephews at the Maddox Hunting cabin, playing a round of golf, grabbing a beer, cooking a pork butt, or watching a football game. Randy started forever in 1993 with his beloved wife and didn’t look back; they’ve spent their life building their home and devoting their time to all the adventures of their two daughters. Randy loved ‘his girls’, you could always find him cheering in the stands or giving his best game plan in between volleyball matches. Randy welcomed Justin and Zachary into his inner circle, eager to see what the future would bring for his family. He was the proudest Papa.

Randy was preceded in passing by his mother Sandra Burford Maddox; and his mother-in-law Cheryl B. Fangmann.

Those left to cherish Randy’s memory include his loving wife of 31 years Kimberly C. Maddox; his daughter Cassandra Staples and her husband Justin, Lindsay Maddox and her fiancé Zachary McMichael; his grandchildren Adalynn Staples, Connell Staples; and his father George Elbert Maddox; his father-in-law Barry E. Secor and his wife Beth Secor; his brother Douglas Edward Maddox and his wife Dede. Randy has countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends left to carry his memory in their hearts.

There will be a memorial service Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 2pm at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Dennis Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Following the service, all are welcome back to the Maddox’s to continue celebrating Randy’s life. Everyone is encouraged to submit their favorite Randy story to his website for his family to reminisce.
