Raymond Calvin Brown

Raymond Calvin Brown, transitioned from this earthly life to his eternal life on Friday, August 22, 2025, at his home. Raymond was born on July 6, 1959, in Martinsville, Virginia, to Veola Brown and the late Calvin Brown.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Beatrice Ann Gravely; one aunt, Senora Brown; and one uncle, Harold Brown.

Raymond accepted Christ at an early age at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Martinsville, Virginia, under the leadership of the late Sam W. Adams.

Raymond was educated in the Henry County School system and graduated from Laural Park High School in 1977. He was an outstanding athlete in basketball and football. He excelled in helping his teammates deliver many victories for the school. He also graduated from Danville Community College with an associate’s degree and was employed with the Richmond Printing Company in Richmond, Virginia, until he became disabled. Prior to his illness, Raymond enjoyed helping others and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Shirley Ann Adams (Winfred) of Martinsville, Virginia; sister by heart, Michelle Roberts of Greensboro, North Carolina; five nephews, DeShannon Adams, Antonio Adams, Jason Gravely, Brandon Adams, and Jonathan Gravely; one uncle, John Gravely; his best friend, Curtis Gravely, all of Martinsville, Virginia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held Friday, August 29, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one-half hour prior to the service. A floating visitation will be held Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 3:00-5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive visitors at the homes located at 1764 Elijah Circle and 955 Blue Knob Road, Martinsville, Virginia, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, and Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 PM.
