Rebecca Strutt Frazier

August 15, 1937 - October 1, 2022

Rebecca Strutt Frazier, age 85, was born in Bessemer City, NC, and lived in Salem, VA for 58 years. Becky passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in the care of her loving daughters on October 1, 2022.

Becky graduated from Shenandoah Music Conservatory (Dayton) in 1959 where she met her husband, Creed; music was a big part of their life together. She sang for years in the Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church choir and Thursday Morning Music Club. She taught 4th grade at Burlington Elementary School for 35 years. Becky was known for her love of family, music, and teaching and was loved in return by her family and friends for her giving and kind spirit.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Strutt and Grace Strutt Whitesides (stepfather, Melvin Whitesides); loving husband, Creed Fulton Frazier III; brother, Clyde Hoyle Strutt; sister, Shirley Strutt Buchanan; son, Creed “Skip” Fulton Frazier IV, and grand-daughter Kayla Lehmann.

Becky is survived by her children, Deborah Sklar (Jonathan Sklar), Ruth Lehmann (Hans Lehmann), Marion Frazier (Ed Warrick), and Leigh Martin (Kenneth “Dale” Martin); daughter-in-law, Christie Decker Frazier; grandchildren, Leah Frazier, Hayley Martin, Laura Sklar, Trinity Martin, Catherine Sklar, Creed Fulton Frazier V, Bella Warrick, Tatum Martin, Hannah Lehmann, Reece Frazier, and Declan Warrick; great-grandchildren Blake Sanders, Kyla Martin, and Adria Martin.

The family will welcome friends on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Reverend Alan Combs of First United Methodist Church officiating.

Becky’s family would like to say thank you for the hundreds of cards and visitors who came to see her during the months of August and September and to the First United Methodist Church family who continuously supported her (especially the prayers and visits from Rev. Alan Combs and Mike Houff). Big hugs are sent to the Thrasher Choir members who sang for her at her home last Sunday. Thank you to everyone who brought or sent flowers; our mom loved flowers so very much. Special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for their kindness and helpful advice in taking care of our mom at her home.
