Rev. Robert Thornton
Rev. Robert Thornton, 80, (known as Bubba) born June 9, 1944 in Mentcle, PA went home to heaven, Friday, August 16, 2024 at 9:19PM at home with his family in Moneta, VA. He was the husband of Naomi Armour Thornton for 57 years and was a minister of the Gospel for more than 56 years until his retirement in June 2024. He had pastorates in Zion, Punxsutawney, and Luciusboro, Pennsylvania where he spent over 30 years. He also taught school for many years touching countless lives. He loved Jesus, people, preaching, playing his instruments, singing, fishing, and hunting. He wanted to be known as kind and his statement was, he wanted his family happy, healthy and holy. Surviving are his wife, Naomi; two daughters, Alcinda Zack and Cora Peak (husband Ben); grandchildren, Alicia Zack, Quintana, Isabel and Marshall Peak all whom he loved dearly; sister, Dolores Saurer (James); brother, Thomas Thornton; many nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of life at the Homer City Nazarene Church, 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary tribute be directed to Robert's funeral assistance, Naomi Thornton, 3766 Stony Fork Rd. Moneta VA 24121.
