Richard Alan King
In loving memory of Richard King, who passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on August 20, 1966, in Salem, Virginia, Richard's life was a testament to kindness, devotion, and an unwavering spirit.
Richard was the cherished son of Delmar Jr and Alice King, both of whom predeceased him. Though their absence was felt profoundly, Richard found solace and joy in his role as a dedicated father to his surviving children: Amber Cook, Rachel Brodrecht (Lawson), Mason King, and Gia King. His legacy continues to shine brightly through his two adored granddaughters, Haleigh Cook and Olivia Brodrecht. He will be lovingly remembered by a host of beloved aunts, uncles and cousins as well as all the friends he made along the way.
A proud alumnus of Virginia Tech, Richard graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He embarked on a fulfilling career at General Electric, where he contributed his skills across various departments, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Richard's life was enriched by his involvement in numerous organizations. A devoted member of Green Ridge Baptist Church, his faith was the cornerstone of his life. He found camaraderie and a sense of adventure with the Blue Ridge Christan Riders chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) and the Roanoke Valley HOG Group, where he shared his passion for motorcycles with fellow enthusiasts. Richard’s commitment to his community was evident through his active participation in the local youth recreation league, where he coached at least one sport every year since 2001, leaving a lasting impact on countless young lives.
Above all, Richard's heart belonged to his family and friends. He was a pillar of strength and compassion, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. His warm smile and generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to know him.
