Richard Clyde Witherow
Richard Clyde Witherow, 88, of Troutville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024 after a long battle with Dementia. Born on August 5, 1936, in Pennsylvania, Richard lived a life rooted in faith, dedication, and love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Judy Witherow. His parents, Vincent and Marie Witherow of Johnstown, PA; his brother James Witherow of Johnstown, PA; his sister Joan Montag (Bernard Montag) of Johnstown, PA; his brother Vincent (Bud) Witherow (Surviving Virginia Witherow) of Pine Grove, PA; and his brother Paul Witherow (Surviving Amy Witherow) of North East, PA.
Richard is survived by his loving daughters, Tina Harlow (Scott Harlow) and Teresa Fisher (Rob Fisher), Johnstown, PA; his brothers Ronald Witherow (Jane Witherow) of Staunton, VA, and Robert Witherow (Louise Witherow) of Harrisonburg, VA; and his cherished grandchildren Nicole, Michael, Ben, Nathan, Gabby, and Tatumn.
A devout member of The Church of the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, Richard lived out his faith as a member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving the distinguished Fourth Degree. His service to his church and community was a cornerstone of his life.
He proudly served his country with honor for 38 years, first in the United States Air Force and later with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Richard’s service was a defining aspect of his life, and he often spoke with great pride about his military career and the friendships he formed during his time in uniform.
Richard worked as an electrician for Bethlehem Steel, where he was known for his skill, dedication, and work ethic. Outside of his career, he found great joy in his family and faith, always prioritizing the people and values that mattered most.
Richard’s warmth, unwavering faith, and love for his family will leave an enduring legacy. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Memorial service will be held on December 5th at The Church of the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church in Fincastle at 6PM. A reception will follow the service at the Church.
There will also be a funeral and burial in Johnston, PA at a later date.
