Robert (Bob) George Meyer, age 75 of Roanoke passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023. He was born May 2, 1947 in Hershey, PA., the first of four sons to Jonas and Ruth Meyer. As a young boy he found the love for sports and a passion for baseball. He played all through high school and went on to play semi-pro baseball and soccer. After graduating from Northern Lebanon High School in 1967 He married his surviving former wife, Judith Wolfe Meyer. He worked as a house parent in various children's homes in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and eventually Franklin County, Virginia from 1967-1976. Once in Virginia Bob was instrumental in the start of recreational youth soccer in Franklin County, became a firefighter with Roanoke City spending most of his time at Station #9, he then served as an Assistant Fire Marshall before retiring in 1998 after more than two decades of service. Bob enjoyed spending time at Smith Mountain Lake with his Fire house family, working as a stone Mason, hunting with his brothers and buddy Gary and being in the outdoors. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Jonas and Ruth Meyer. He is survived by three daughters, Renea Ingram and husband Allan, Rebecca (East) Hill, Sarah Farmer and husband Lance; six grandchildren, Allana Ingram Scott and husband Roy, Jacob Ingram and wife Miranda, Anna Ingram, Brittany (East) Goff and husband G.C., Grace Farmer, Edward Farmer; three great-grandchildren, Grayson Goff, Emmeline Scott, Shyloh Scott; three brothers, Jim Meyer and wife Mary Ann, David Meyer and wife Tammy, Ronnie Meyer and wife Betty; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount, Virginia.
