Robert "Dobie" Dale Barker

Robert Dale “Dobie” Barker, 69, passed away peacefully at his residence after a long illness, on August 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born in Danville, VA on March 3, 1957 to the late Mary Elizabeth Wright Barker and the late Robert Lee Barker. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Mrs. Joan Cousins Barker.

Dobie was of the Christian Faith. He worked for many years as a Mail Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service previous to his retirement. Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He had a special love for Fishing, Camping, Music, Yard Work, and loved his dogs.

In addition to his wife, Dobie is survived by a daughter; Shannon Marie Barker of Chatham, VA; two brothers; Danny Barker and wife Cindy, and Donnie Barker and wife Melody; a sister; Kathi Price and husband Rick; brother and sister in laws; Keith and Lynne Cousins and George and Christy McCurry; as well as multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a multitude of close friends that were like family.

In addition to his parents, Dobie was predeceased by a son; Jonathan Robert Barker. No Formal Services are planned at this time. The family respectfully request no visits to the home at this time.

A close friend shared that: Today we have lost a very dear friend; His Life here on earth, has come to an end, Our hearts were warmed, when he came along; Many tears we’ll shed, now that he’s gone; All eyes turn to heaven, on this sad day; Sine our dear, Dobie has gone away.

From the first time we met him, always a smile; Right there to help you, he’d go that extra mile; Always a smile, very seldom a frown; Never a sad moment, when he was around; Came into our lives, for a very short time; I’ll never forget, his path crossing mine Sweet as heart and a smile that did shine.

Since life is so short and one day we’ll go; Can you, please Dobie, walk real slow; Here on this earth, your presence we’ll miss; My life was made better, with your hugs and kiss; I do believe, we will see you again; Do look down on us with your sweet, sweet grin; Till we join you up there; “Our Dear, Dear, Friend” Norris Funeral Services, Inc. & Crematory, Mt.
