Robert "Eddie" Edward Stone
Robert Edward Stone, Jr., 71, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2026. He was born January 4, 1955, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Robert Edward Stone, Sr. and Josephine Joy Watkins Stone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dianne Carol Sebastian Stone; paternal grandparents, King Edward Stone and Hattie Foster Stone; and maternal grandparents, Charlie M. Watkins and Zera Watkins.
Robert affectionately called “Eddie” all his life loved the outdoors. He learned to drive the tractor at an early age. He loved the farm life - growing a garden, working in the hay fields and checking on the cows. In his forties he took up woodworking. He made China cabinets, hutches, toy boxes entertainment centers, jewelry boxes and his famous plates that he gave to everyone that came by. He even made a pulpit lectern for Martinsville Christian Fellowship and for Northside Baptist Church. He also made the communion table at Northside Baptist. He worked for 25 years at Bassett Mirror. During this time the company sent him to Italy twice and he had lots of stories about those trips. After leaving Bassett Mirror he worked an additional 10+ years at Weiland Copper before retiring due to his health. He considered his family his greatest success showing love to all of them and his little dog Baby that was a great comfort to him the past few years.
He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Clark and Ann Jones; his sons, Pete Stone and John Stone; his sister, Jane Barrow Galliger; his brother, Kenneth Stone; his grandchildren, LaToshia, Tierra, Haylee Mae, Kacey, and Tanner; nine great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will deeply miss him.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service, Bassett Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Wright Funeral Service, Bassett Chapel at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Stone Family Cemetery, 910 Stoneyridge Road, Bassett, Virginia.
