Robert Edgar Smith

Mr. Robert Edgar “Bobby” Smith, Jr., 75, of Lowgap, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem. Mr. Smith was born April 30, 1948, in Surry County, the son of the late Robert Edgar Smith, Sr. and Ethel Alline Callaway Smith. Bobby was a lifelong farmer. He also retired from the Lowgap Post Office and Pine Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. Bobby had been a part of the Ivy Green Baptist Church congregation his entire 75 years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who left an unfillable void in his family, his church, and his community. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Treva Nichols Smith; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Juan Escobar and Sarah and Adam Southard; four grandchildren, Anna Escobar, Ernest Escobar, Robert Escobar, and Malachi Southard; and two brothers and three sisters-in-law, James “Jimmy” and Teresa Smith, Thomas “Tommy” and Judy Smith, and Annette Smith. In addition to his parents Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Wayne “Danny” Smith. The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Ivy Green Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Ivy Green Church Cemetery Fund, 208 Dan Callaway Road, Lowgap, NC 27024.
