Robert George Stammerjohn

Robert George Stammerjohn age 97, passed away on Monday September 30, 2024. Born in Chicago, IL in 1927, he was the son of Carl and Frieda Stammerjohn and brother to Carl, Ruth, Richard and Howard. Robert was husband to Joan for 67 years and the blessed father of Kathy, Cindy, David, Barbara, Robert and Sharon and grandfather to Jodi, Jen, Ryan and Whitney. Robert survived to become the Great Grandfather to Jaden, Pya, Bron, Ryan, Beckam, Salem, Napali, Kira, Juni, Marigold, Molly and Ellie.

Robert proudly served his Country with 30 years of honorable service in the United States Navy, retiring in 1975. His service included deployments in WWII, Korea and Vietnam as an aircraft carrier pilot. Robert was proud to be one of five siblings that all served our country across the military branches, Navy, Army and Air Force.

Post military service Robert was a small business accountant and volunteered his accounting skills to a homeless shelter for men and as an AARP tax preparer. In addition, Robert served as a County Election Judge for more than twelve years. As an avid sailor, Robert served on the Bridge as an officer for the United States Power Squadron, including Secretary, Treasurer and Senior Education Officer. Robert shared his passion for sailing and navigation through teaching as the Advanced Navigation Course Chairman, for which he attained the grade of senior navigator and received the highest Power Squadron award. He also enjoyed tennis, puzzles, and woodworking.

Robert will be interned with his wife Joan at Arlington National Cemetery.
