Robert Leon Johnson
Robert Leon “Flat Top” Johnson, age 75, of 200 Valleybrook Lane, Covington, Virginia died Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at his residence.
Mr. Johnson was born on October 11, 1947 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Carl Tenious and Alberta Burks Johnson. He was a maintenance engineer for both the Alleghany County Courthouse and the Alleghany County Government Complex in Low Moor. He was a member of Iron Gate Baptist Church, and was well known throughout the Highlands for his expert car detailing. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved drag racing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Willie “Tater” Johnson, Harry Johnson, and Carl “Butch” Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Glendora Hunter Johnson of Covington; three daughters, Roberta Lynn Johnson of Roanoke, Michelle Johnson Spencer and husband Nigel of Virginia Beach, and Kelly Johnson of Covington, Georgia; a step son, Roger Hunter and wife Stephania of Clifton Forge; three sisters, Marion Gabrel and husband Samuel of Atlantic City, NJ, Emily Quarles of Blacksburg, and Carlene “Polly” Hunter and husband Russell of Valley Ridge, Covington; six grandchildren, Steven Wilkes, Kasey Hunter, Trevon Helton and Sam, Keziah Johnson, Taysia Smith, and William Smith; a great grandson, Quishawn Smith; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends on Monday afternoon from 12:30 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
