Robert "Potts" L. Betterton

Potts was born September 12, 1950 to Robert L. Betterton Sr. and Adele K. Betterton, and passed on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at home surrounded by his loved ones after a long, courageous battle with heart disease. Potts was preceded in death by his father, Robert Sr. and mother, Adelle. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lynette Betterton whom he was fully devoted to throughout their wonderful marriage. Also left to cherish his memory are his two children, Jason Betterton (Lorrie) and Sarah Hodges (Charlie). He will be greatly missed by the granddaughters who were the apple of his eye, Lily and Ave Betterton and Maggie Hodges. Potts was a member of the Army National Guard after graduating high school before he went to work for the Virginia Department of Transportation where he made many great friends and memories in his 38 years there. After retiring from VDOT he went to work for the Virginia ABC where he continued to make friends and tell his wonderful stories. Potts always enjoyed being around those he loved. Whether he was out fishing at SML, or playing softball with the Rumley's crew, or hanging out with Johnny and the others down at Riverside. Potts always had a story to tell and whether true or not they were always great to hear. Potts accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior before his passing, so it's safe to say he's playing softball in Heaven with Peanut, Jerry Shane, and the rest of the guys that passed before him. Potts is now in his forever home and no longer has to feel the pain he was in. Also left to cherish his memory are his brother, Kenny Betterton (Janet). He loved his brother very much. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his mother-in-law whom he adored, Lucy Quinn. We all know that you are no longer suffering and are now at peace with God. We all just want to thank you for being such a great father, husband, grandfather, and friend. We will always love you and never forget you. We love you Pop. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
