Roger Dale Hatcher

July 3, 1944 - June 6, 2025

Roger Dale Hatcher, age 80, of Martinsville, VA, passed away June 6, 2025, in the comfort of his home. He was born July 3, 1944, in Caswell County, NC, to the late Willie and Ruby Hatcher. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Lee Hatcher, Modean Roberts, and Frances Gustafson.

Mr. Hatcher is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Judy Gammons Hatcher; his three daughters, Jerri Crews (Jeff), Leigh Thacker (Curtis), Erin Jenkins (Charles); six grandchildren, Zach Crews (Katherine), Casey Koger (David), Drew & Landin Thacker, Caleb & Nick Jenkins; two great grandchildren, Lincoln & Preslie Koger, all of Martinsville, VA; and a multitude of other loved relatives.

Roger was a longtime faithful member of Granbery Church. He was a former tobacco farmer and retired VDOT employee. Following retirement, he enjoyed working on the family farm. Roger was known for his passion to converse with absolutely anyone, his love of hunting and fishing, riding around the farm on his tractor, having a green thumb in the garden, and seeking out vintage ‘treasures’ at yard sales. Above all else, his most celebrated accomplishment was his family. He was always eager to tell others about his children and grandchildren. Over the last year, he was bursting with pride for the new family business, The Legacy at Hatcher Farm. Roger’s legacy will indeed be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville, Virginia. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Blair officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. The Pallbearers will be Dennis Smith, Zach Crews, David Koger, Drew Thacker, Landin Thacker, Caleb Jenkins and Nick Jenkins. To honor Roger’s life and legacy, the family will be planting shrubbery and trees on the farm he loved. If desired, in lieu of flowers, the family will gladly accept any plant contributions which will be a living tribute. In addition, donations may be made to Granbery Church, 200 Granbery Rd Martinsville, VA 24112. Please DO NOT click the Plant a Tree/Tree Store option at the bottom of the page. That plant donation does not go to Roger's farm. For donations, please contact the family directly.
