Roger Lyle Moretz

Roger Lyle Moretz, 92, of Roanoke passed away on November 4, 2025.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh and Minnie Moretz; and his wife of 66 years, Jean H Moretz. Roger was the oldest of 6 children that preceded him death: Dwight, Dan, Billy and Steven Moretz and his sister Judy Staley; his grandchildren, Dylan and Kendel Martin; Brother-in-law, Ronald Hughes; and sister-in-law, Melvina “Bunny” Obenshain.

Roger is survived by his daughters: Sherry (Jeff) Childress, Gail (Michael) Biggs; his grandchildren, Brendan (Jennifer) Dalglish, Kelsey and Austin Martin; 4 great-grandchildren, Carter, Mason, Jacob and Ella Dalglish; sister-in-law, Cindy Moretz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roger was saved at the age of 18 and shared his love for the Lord with everyone he met. He was ordained in 1982 and served as Pastor, assistant pastor, deacon and teacher at several churches over the years. He was a faithful member of Colonial Baptist Church in Blue Ridge.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, putting together puzzles, playing chess and Chinese checkers, taking car rides enjoying scenery around the country, and spending winters in Florida.

The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home in Daleville on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 4:00 until 6:00 pm.

A funeral service will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Daleville on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at 2:00 pm with Joel Wegner and John Dooley officiating. Burial will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all the care given by Carilion Hospice over the last 18 months: Megan, Jasmine, Michele, Jessie, Dianne, Drew and Madie were very special to him.
