Roma Ann Simmons

April 8, 1951 - April 29, 2025

It is with both heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we celebrate the life of the extraordinary woman Roma Lowe Simmons born April 8, 1951, in Welch, WV — a woman whose warmth, faith, creativity, and love left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Roma passed away peacefully April 29, 2025, at the age of 74, surrounded by family, having lived a life overflowing with grace, love, and joy.

Roma was a devoted wife to her beloved husband of 32 years, Gary Simmons, with whom she shared love, laughter, and partnership. Together, they built a legacy rooted in faith, family, and service to others. She was the proud mother of two daughters Neriann Whichard (Dave), Lara Hull (Stephen) and two stepchildren Tasha Simmons and Buddy Simmons, each of whom she loved and nurtured with wisdom and kindness. Her life continues to bloom through her grandchildren Brooke Hogston (Sean), Bailee Bonds (Kenan), Brittney Painter (Bryan), Logan Gilley (Ryan), Landon Hull, Peyton Hull, Cruz Hull, Brantley Simmons and Braelyn Simmons. She also had the joy of loving and celebrating six great-grandchildren.

Roma is also survived by her beloved siblings: Mira Horner (Russ), Steve Lowe (Sharon), and Anighta Stratton, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories, love, and support. She was preceded in death by her father, Rennie Lowe, her mother Mildred Lowe, her sister Kay Glanden, her brother-in-law Richard Stratton, her nephew Reed Horner, and her grandson Camden.

Roma also served faithfully as a care pastor at CLI Church for 11 years, where her heart for people and deep love for Jesus touched lives in profound ways. She was a leader in women’s ministry, a mentor, a prayer warrior, and a source of strength for many. Her words brought comfort, her faith brought hope, and her presence brought peace. She was a radiant example of Christ’s love in action.

A woman of many gifts, Roma was a true artist of life — a woman whose creativity knew no bounds and whose hands were never still. A gifted seamstress, she had the rare ability to transform the simplest materials into beauty and meaning. Her passion for decorating and event planning made every gathering she touched unforgettable. From intimate family celebrations to grand church events and weddings, Roma’s creative spirit turned ordinary spaces into places of warmth, joy, and elegance. She especially loved working with flowers and weddings, helping countless couples bring their dreams to life with artistry and love. Her designs weren’t just beautiful — they were an extension of her heart, her faith, and her desire to celebrate life’s most sacred moments.

She also had a deep love for the outdoors and stayed active throughout her life. She found joy in walks, hiking trails, her garden, and riding a bike — always appreciating the simple, peaceful moments nature offers.

Roma Simmons leaves behind a legacy of love, a trail of kindness, and a family forever shaped by her incredible life. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in every prayer whispered, every stitch sewn, every flower arranged, and every life she touched.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
