Ronald Cowart

Ronald Cowart, 81, of Rustburg passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025, surrounded by those he loved. He was the son of the late Jesse Allen Cowart, Sr., and Muriel Faler Cowart.

Born May 15, 1944, Ronald leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, craftsmanship, and a deep love for nature. He will be remembered most fondly for his passion for gardening—there was little he couldn’t grow, and his green thumb was known to all who knew him.

Ronald was also a devoted reader, collecting an eclectic mix of books that reflected his diverse interests, from horticulture to history. His love for learning was matched by his talent for working with his hands. Whether restoring his beloved 1966 Fastback Mustang or assembling intricate model trains, Ronald found great joy in building and creating.

A man who treasured time outdoors, he took meticulous care of his garden and pool, always ensuring they were maintained with care and attention. Beyond caring for his yard, Ronald cared for the environment and consistently recycled for many years. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Colonial Williamsburg, where he found delight in its rich heritage and charm.

Ronald served in the United States Army for eight years and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. Stationed in both Korea and Germany, with additional travel throughout Korea, Japan, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and France. These experiences fostered a strong appreciation for global cultures and a commitment to promoting international understanding and the value of a broadened worldview.

Ronald was a man of integrity, warmth, and quiet strength. His presence enriched the lives of those around him, and he will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him

In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in passing by wife Robin Rowland Cowart and his wife Vanessa Krantz Cowart, and his best friend John Richardson.

Those left to cherish Ronald’s memory his children Christopher C. Cowart of Rustburg, Holly R. Cowart of Altavista, Eric Cowart and his wife Kristin of Rustburg; his siblings Karen Cowart Taylor and her husband Ed of Bedford, Butch Cowart and his wife Carolyn of Concord, Marion Lemons of Reidsville, NC, Jesse Allen Cowart, Jr., and his wife Judy of Winfall, Sean Cowart and his partner Todd of Greensboro, NC, Shannon Cowart and her partner C.J. of Greensboro, NC; his many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
