Ronald Joseph “Joe” Ingram, 41, of Henry, Virginia, after fighting a long and courageous 17 year battle with progressive Multiple Sclerosis passed away Thursday, April 13, 2023.

He was born in Martinsville, Virginia, to Ronald Otis Ingram and Arlene Joan Ingram Ingram on July 16, 1981. Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents; Leonard and Martha Ingram; and H.D. and Rena Lou Ingram; and one sister, Nellie Len Ingram.

He is survived by his parents Ronald and Arlene; three brothers; Allan Ingram and wife Renea, their children Allana Scott (Roy), Jacob (Miranda), and Anna; brother; Daniel Ingram and wife Katherine, their children Abel, Eli, Isaac, Caleb and Leba; brother; Neal Ingram and wife Karsey, their children Ryley, Jordan, Jackson and Reagan, two great nieces Emmeline and Shyloh Scott and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church where he had been a member since 2008.

Joe graduated from Franklin County High School, received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in engineering from Virginia Military Institute and received his Master’s of Science degree in soil engineering from University of West Virginia.

Joe was a 1stLieutenant having served with the U.S. Army Reserve.

Joe was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2006 and progressively got worse over the next 17 years. Joe first lost his ability to walk and went from crutches to wheelchair, then losing the use of his hands and arms, and eventually losing use of everything from the neck down. He had been placed on oxygen and feeding tube. Joe had multiple operations and extended stays in the hospital, however throughout all of his illness, Joe never lost hope and kept a smile. Everyone around him always commented on Joe’s wonderful smile.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Joe’s home 525 Knob Church Road, Henry, Virginia.

Funeral services will be held at Mill Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor John Ingram and Pastor Barry Cundiff officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry Community Center at 5341 Henry Road, Henry, VA 24102, or a charity of choice.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, family and friends for all the prayers, care, visits, and kindness during Joe’s struggle. A very special thank you to Susie Adkins, Donna McManus and Joanna Smart as well as Salem Veteran’s Hospital for all their excellent care and service.
