Ronald Lee McCormick
Ronald Lee McCormick, 72, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026.
Ronald proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he worked as a welder and later as a truck driver for Werner Enterprises. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ronald found joy in the simple things in life. He enjoyed reading, sketching, and anything related to music. He also formed meaningful friendships throughout his life, including with his roommate, Chester “Bubba” Brown, who became like family to him.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., with Pastor Gary Alls officiating.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Salem VAMC for the exceptional care they provided Ronald throughout the years. A special thank you is extended to the staff at Davis & McDaniel Veteran’s Care Center, where Ronald had been cared for since December 2025. The family would especially like to recognize RN Joann, his favorite weekend nurse; RN Miok, his night nurse, who was with him right until the end; and CNAs Tina and Isaiah, who went above and beyond the call of duty each day and became true companions to Ronald.
The family would also like to express their deepest appreciation to Gentle Shepherd Hospice for the loving care they provided during Ronald’s final week. Kim Eckenroth, FNP, and Maryluz Cole, CNA, cared for Ronald with a love and compassion that made them feel like family. The family is also grateful to the office staff for their timely assistance with his admission and to everyone at Gentle Shepherd Hospice for the prayers and support they offered to Ronald and his family. Their kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
A special thank you is extended to Donna Mitchell, RN, of Gentle Shepherd Hospice, who provided care during Ronald’s final three days and was present with the family at the time of his passing.
Ronald’s family will remain forever grateful to all those who cared for him, supported him, and brought comfort and companionship into his life.

Ronald will be remembered for his service to his country, his love of reading, sketching, and music, and most of all, for the friendships and relationships he formed throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
