Rosser Lee Moore
Rosser Lee Moore, 78, of Danville, Virginia, passed away on July 17, 2023. Rosser was born on January 22, 1945. He was a graduate of Spring Garden High School, class of 1964. After graduation he started his first job with The Danville Register and Bee as an apprentice and went on to work for 42 years until his retirement in the composing room.
In 1963, Rosser met Judith Kay McKinney at Third Ave Congregational Christian Church. Rosser and Kay went on to marry in 1964 and later have two children, Lisa Moore McDowell, and Rosser Lee Moore II.
Rosser is survived by his wife of 58 years Kay M. Moore of Danville, VA, his daughter; Lisa M. McDowell of Danville, VA, and his son Rosser Lee Moore II of Danville, VA; two grandsons; L. Wes Creasy II of Boston, MA and G. Houston McDowell of Richmond, VA.
Rosser Lee (Rosco) was an avid sports fan. He saw only one color of Blue and that was The Duke Blue Devils. He was also a huge New York Yankee fan- Go Judge! And lastly he stayed loyal to the Washington Redskins. He loved to fish, and collect historical items.
Rosser (aka Ross, Daddy, Granddad) was a friend to many. He loved his flea marketing weekend trips to visit and talk with many friends he made over the years. He also had life long friends and family that he kept in touch with by calling on the phone. (Ring Ring- Frankie Gunnell and the late James Lynch). He had a memorized list that he regularly called. In fact, his daughter teased him telling him he talked on the phone and gossiped more than a woman. He truly loved his family and friends and would do anything for them.
His grandsons, or as he called them “son” or “the boys” were his pride and joy. That was a love like no other. He used to take “the boys” to school and every day, never fail, the boys’ fond memory was Granddad saying, “ Good Day, Good Grades”. He would then always pick them up with a cold drink and snack in the car, or swing by Long John Silver’s for the best afterschool Dr. Pepper ever.
He also had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews.
Daddy was a go-to for his daughter, only a phone call away. He could fix anything and taught me everything. He also may be where I inherited our mutual obsessive attention to details and perfectionism. I will miss the random early morning visits to bring me a biscuit and large sweet tea, the mornings he would grab my car and take it and get it washed and cleaned, how he would always keep up with my tags and inspection stickers. In the last few years, I would take him riding and out to eat. I will miss our weekend adventures, alternating between the kind of food I like and his preferred meal from an old diner or café. I loved my Daddy. But sometimes we don’t actually say the words, so please tell your loved ones you love them.
