Roy Clifford Watts
Roy Clifford Watts, known to all as R.C., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 10th after a brief illness.
Born on February 11th, 1934 in Rockbridge County, Virginia, he lived a long and fulfilling life. His life was guided by conviction, honesty, hard work and devotion to God and was most proud of his loving family.
RC married the love of his life, Iona Marie Seay, in 1954. He was completely devoted to Iona and had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. In 1965, they moved to Alabama and eventually settled in Demopolis in 1975. They raised five children: Mike, Steve, Beth, Jenny, and David, instilling in them the virtues of a Christian life.
R.C. led by example and had a positive influence on the people around him. He was a natural leader and was trusted by all. He was able to bring out the best in those around him and there was never a problem that he thought could not be solved if you worked hard and used good judgement. He was known for his ingenuity and inventive nature, which continued up until his last days. He was a firm believer in education, whether academic or practical. He was not afraid to correct one's mistakes, and he instilled a sense of pride in a job well done. For many, he provided direction that helped his friends to improve their own life. He strove for perfection in every aspect of his life, and influenced others to be the best of themselves. After a 42-year dedicated career at Lonestar Cement plant, he retired in 1996 to spend more time with his hobbies (gardening) and family. R.C. was considered an esteemed member of his community serving as a Gideon and Sunday School teacher for decades. If you had needs in your life, he was the first one to show up on your doorstep to help. He never asked for anything in return. He was a godly man, and lived his life in reflection of the teachings of the Word.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Clinton Watts and Charlotte Lotts Watts, his siblings, Harry, William, Betty Rodgers, Malcolm, and Thomas. He is survived by his wife Iona and his beloved children Mike (Sharon), Steve (Gina), Beth (Randy), Jenny (Rick), and David (Katherine), 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Ridout's Valley Chapel 1800 Oxmoor Rd. in Homewood, Alabama from 12-2 pm, Saturday, September 14th, with a short service to follow at 2 pm. His final resting place will be near his homeplace at Fairview Cemetery in Buchanan Virginia, facing the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. In Virginia, the visitation will be held from 12-1:30 pm on Monday, September 16 at the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home (14920 Lee Highway, Buchanan, Va) and a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery at 2 pm.
