Roy Douglas Stone
Roy Douglass Stone, 93, of Bassett, VA, passed away on January 16, 2025, at his home in Daytona, Florida.
He was born on June 16, 21931 in Henry County, Virginia to the late Larkin McKinley Stone and Mattie Wright Stone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers; C.D., Warren, Herman, Ralph, and Bernard Stone, and his sister, Lee Morse.
Roy honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War serving as an International Courier until his retirement. He was employed by Dupont after his military service. He was an active member of the Victory Baptist Church before retiring to Florida. He was a devoted son and brother and cherished the time he could spend with his family and friends. He was also an avid NASCAR fan which drew him to Daytona.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Ossman Stone, one brother, Ken Stone (Jeanette); four sisters; Elsie Perkins, Doris Newton (Ray), Virginia Williamson (Jack), and Dorothy Freeman (Bill), and numerous other family members and friends. Having no children of his own, he was blessed with a friend and caregiver who was loved as a daughter, Dawnmarie Morea and Scott Newell, who called him Dad.
A Memorial Service with Military Rites will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Mount Hermon Church of the Brethren in Bassett, VA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mount Hermon Church Cemetery Fund, 144 Mt. Hermon Church Road, Bassett, VA 24055.
