Russell Edward Millner
Russell Edward Millner, Sr., 84, of Goode, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Born in Bedford County on May 2, 1942, he was the son of the late Jesse Gordon Millner and Martha Burks Millner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Jesse Millner, Jr., Murrell Williams, Marye Snow, Orie Millner, Glenn Millner and Ronald Millner.
Russell proudly served his country for six years in the U.S. Army National Guard. He enjoyed a long and successful career in banking, retiring as Vice President of Bedford Federal Savings and Loan. He was also a talented auctioneer and worked with multiple auction companies throughout the area.
Although his professional life was spent in banking and auctioneering, Russell was always a farmer at heart. Having grown up on a dairy farm in Appomattox, he never lost his appreciation for the land, farming, and the values that came from his rural upbringing.
Russell was a member of Rock Pike Baptist Church. Above all, he treasured his family and the time he shared with those closest to him.
He is survived by his wife, Sherri A. Millner; two sons, Russell E. Millner, Jr. (Melissa), and Michael Millner (Lauren); three grandchildren, Cole Millner (Camryn), Mary Michael Francis (Judd), and Hunter Millner (Katie); “his Girls,” Abbie and Sasi; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2026, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Pastor John Sines officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the caregivers with Bedford Centra Hospice, Noah’s Landing, and Erica Highsmith and her crew for the excellent and compassionate care they provided Russell.
