Russell H. East

Russell H. East, Jr. passed on to heaven on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Mr. East was born April 4, 1942 in Pittsylvania County to the late Russell H. East, Sr. and the late Katella Eldtitch East. He was married to the late Joyce Mays East.

Mr. East is survived by his son, Rev. Russell H. East, III and his wife Betsy.

He was a lifelong member of Shockoe Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, deacon, and moderator. He was an educator in the Pittsylvania County school system for many years, and then became a full-time tobacco farmer on the family farm. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to bird hunt and fish, and especially loved to catfish at Santee Cooper in South Carolina.

The family would like to give special thanks to his sister-in-law, Ellen Brumfield, and special friend, Lena Calloway, for taking such wonderful care of him.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Shockoe Baptist Church with Rev. Russell H. East, III and Rev. Donald Shields officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Burial Park in Chatham. A visitation will be held at the church prior to the funeral from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
