Russell Hunter

Russell Lee Hunter, Jr., age 45, of 306 Dairy Street, Apt K 22, in Covington, Virginia died on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at his residence. Russell was born on August 11, 1981 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Russell Lee Hunter, Sr. and Carlene “Polly” Johnson Hunter. He received his Bachelor Degree in Information Technology from the ITT Technical Institute campus in Richmond, and was an I.T. Manager for Tight Technologies, Inc. He attended Wrightsville Baptist Church, Covington. He is survived by his wife, Jelan Hunter, his mother, Polly Hunter, a daughter, Shontee Ray, and two sons, Ladarron Myers and Jayvon Myers Hunter, all of Covington; a brother, Michael Hunter (Monica) of Christiansburg; a sister, Vanessa Hunter of Covington; his cousin “sisters”, Tiffany Quarles and Tanisha Quarles; three aunts, Marion Gabiel (Samuel), Bonnie Quarles, and Glendora Johnson; two uncles, Raymond Hunter and Lianwood Hunter (Bunny); a niece, Kiara Hunter and a nephew, M.J. Hunter; and his best friends, Natasha (Bishop) Jackson and Keenan Nevils. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Randall Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
