Ruth Anthony Agnor

Ruth Marie Anthony Agnor died in Lynchburg on Monday, September 21, 2026 due to long term health problems.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark Anthony and Ernestine Kirby Anthony. She is survived by her son, James Michael “Hippy” Agnor; two brothers, Mark Anthony, IV and wife Reba and James Marshall Anthony and wife Nancy; her beloved cousin, Stephen G. Kirby and wife Leegie; her grandson, Elijah Agnor and great granddaughter, Willow Agnor. She is also survived by two nieces, one nephew, three great nieces, one great nephew, a grandson and a great granddaughter.

Ruth was born in Lynchburg on May 8, 1941. She remained a lifelong resident of the Lynchburg area. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School, worked in accounting with several local banks, and eventually retired from GE/Ericsson. For many years, until she was no longer able, she enjoyed meeting with several of her high school classmates for a monthly luncheon.

Ruth loved to travel and enjoyed being with her traveling companions. She visited many, if not all, of the states, and traveled to Europe several times and to the Far East several times.

She was a good mother, sister, and friends with a “live and let live” attitude, a sharp wit, and wry humor. Family and friends will miss her greatly and pray she will rest in peace.

A graveside service will be held at 12 Noon, Friday, September 25, 2026 at Virginia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
