Ruth Humphries Maddy
Ruth Maddy, 98, of Roanoke and formerly of Covington, went peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father, on February 9, 2024, at her residence. She was surrounded by her loved ones including her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a devoted disciple and follower or Jesus Christ. She was married to Reverand Paul A. Maddy for 59 years and served by his side faithfully. She had a true servant’s heart and cared for her grandkids, family, sick neighbors, and anyone in need. She truly would give anyone the very shirt off of her back if it was needed. She had a heart for the underprivileged. She was a pillar in her small community of Covington, VA and was well known for her generosity. She worked in nursing and patient care first, for the railroad, followed by Alleghany Regional for 30 years. She proudly retired from her profession to be able to further care for her family. Her hobbies included cooking, canning, and home making. She inspired a generation of granddaughters and great granddaughters to work in patient care as well. She was so proud of all of her family. She was a role model for many.
She is survived by her children Stephen Maddy and his wife Patricia of Covington, David Maddy of Covington, Dr. Dalh M. Brown and her husband of Roanoke David Brown, Robin M. Bertram, and her husband Ken Bertram, of Raleigh NC. Grandchildren, Rick & Amy Maddy Swoope, Stacy Maddy, David Maddy, Michelle Maddy Dillon, Fallon Burch, Justin Brown, Logan Bertram, Taylor Bertram Gibson, great grandchildren, Chloe Swoope Goodson, Carson, Swoope, Colbi Swoope, Colin Maddy, Elayna Maddy, Liam Burch, Lucus Burch, Gunner Brown, Seraphine Brown, Hanora Bertram, August Bertram, Adelyn Gibson. Great, Great Grandchildren Rowin Dillon, Jace Dillon, Colt Goodson, Barrett Goodson.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home.
Entombment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park.
The family will receive their friends on Thursday from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be David Brown, Justin Brown, Stephen Maddy, David Maddy Sr., David Maddy Jr., and Ken Bertram.
