Ruth Mae Herndon Redd

November 19, 1945 - April 5, 2025

Ruth Mae Herndon Redd, age 79 of Dry Fork, Virginia went to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at SOVAH Health in Danville, Virginia. Mae was born November 19, 1945, in Danville, Virginia to the late Eva Boswell Herndon and the late John Edward Herndon.

Ms. Redd was a lifetime member of Oakland Community Church. She was a director of medical records for Riverside Health and Rehab Center for 33 years. Mae attended the National Business College as well as Danville Community College.

Mae had many passions and hobbies in life. She was an avid reader, loved her crosswords puzzles and games, and was an American History lover. She was a dedicated Duke Basketball fan, loved to travel, and would enjoy watching her niece and nephew playing sports and attending dance recitals.

Ms. Redd is survived by her daughter, Anita Redd of Raleigh, NC; brother, Eddie Herndon (Donna) of Chatham, VA, niece, Liz Herndon (Brittany) of Richmond, VA; nephew, Lee Herndon (Kiersten) of Danville, VA; great nephew, Aubrey Herndon; and great niece, Evee Herndon.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Mark Redd and sister, Carol Elaine Herndon.

Funeral services for Ms. Redd will be conducted on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services Chatham Chapel with Pastor Cabel Cobbs and Richard Motley officiating. Visitation will be conducted one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Eddie and Donna Herndon. Interment will follow at Oakland Community Church Cemetery.

She had a long and courageous battle with cancer over the past 17 years. The family wants to thank the following for their exceptional care; Duke Gynecology/Oncology, Dr. Andrew Berchuck and staff, Duke Medical Center 9th floor, Wake Forest Baptist Hospital Cancer Center 7th floor, Sovah Health 5th floor staff and doctors, and Roman Eagle Rehabilitation Center.
