Samuel Leon Turner

Samuel Leon “Sammy” Turner, 83, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 10, 1940, to the late Homer Turner and Clemmie Kendrick Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, James Turner, Alan Turner, Jason Turner, Bill Turner, James “Crow” Turner, and Mitchell Turner.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, walking, hiking, listening to his scanner, his dogs, and birds.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-four years, Janet C. Turner; two daughters, Diane Kendrick and Daneille Hannock (Ted); three sons, David Turner, Daniel Edwards (Heather) and Kevin Edwards (Kim); special grandson, Brandon Rea (Stephanie); seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four brothers, Ted Turner, Landis Turner, J.D Turner and Nathan Turner; one sister, Marlene Dalton; and a host of nieces nephews, other family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 1:00PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow immediately after the service at Roselawn Burial Park.
