Sara Mathews Parrish Clark
Sara “Sally” Mathews Parrish Clark, 74, passed away unexpectedly on July 30, 2026. Sara was born in Norfolk, VA on June 12, 1952 to the late Nancy Culpeper Mathews and the late Marion John Mathews. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Mr. James Giles Clark.
Sara was of the Christian Faith and a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School. She worked for many years in the receiving department for Winn-Dixie in Danville and later at Southern VA Mental Institute, previous to her retirement. She had a special love for horses and very much enjoyed riding as much as she could. She also loved tending to her vegetable garden and all her flowers.
In addition to her husband, Sara is survived by a daughter; Jackie Barker (Mark) of Keeling, VA; three sons; Jeremy Parrish (April) of Colorado Springs, CO, Steven Parrish of Rockville, MD, and Joseph Clark of Danville, VA; eleven grandchildren; Kaylie, Ian, Evan, Lucas, Colette, Lydia, Simon, Sophia, Andrew, Alexis, and Cece; a great grandchild; Sloane as well as one on the way; all her animals as well as numerous close riding friends along with her church family.
In addition to her parents, Sara was predeceased by a sister; Marty Hollinger.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA with Pastor Mike Myers officiating and Pastor Ken Parrish speaking. A visitation will be held on the same day just prior to the service from 1-2:00pm, also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA.
