Sheila Barbara Smith

December 4, 1951 - January 17, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sheila Barbara Smith, who departed this life on January 17, 2025, at the age of 73. Sheila was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her—an extraordinary woman who brought warmth, wisdom, and kindness to every room she entered.

Born with a heart full of love and a spirit that knew no bounds, Sheila lived her life as a beacon of hope and strength. Sheila’s steadfast dedication to her family and friends was unparalleled.

Sheila is preceded in death her loving husband, Bernard Smith wonderful daughter, Wendy Smith, and parents, Jake and Victoria Saker.

Sheila leaves behind her cherished grandson, Lennox Sanders-Smith; sisters, Susan Pauley (Lewis), Sandra Taylor (Daniel), Mary McInnis (Kenny), and Marie Saker; brother, Gabriel Saker (Holly); nieces, Danielle Taylor and Gabriella Saker; nephews, Jason Pauley, Jarvis Pauley, Danny Taylor; River Saker; Jacob Smith and Joshua Smith; a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as special friends, Jennifer Phillips, Matt Doyle and Jennifer Mills. Together, they shared countless moments of joy, laughter, and enduring love—bonds that will continue to keep Sheila's memory alive in their hearts.

Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate the incredible life Sheila lived and the legacy she leaves behind. She taught us to cherish each other, to embrace every moment, and to love unconditionally. Sheila’s spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched, and her memory will forever be a blessing to us all.

A celebration of Sheila's life will be held in the spring. All who were touched by her warmth and kindness are welcome to join us in honoring her remarkable journey.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, as a reflection of Sheila's compassionate heart and dedication to helping others. The family would also like to thank Carilion Palliative for their support.

Rest in peace, Sheila Barbara Smith. You will be missed beyond measure and remembered with love always.
