Shelby Jean Taylor, 67, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. She was born October 13, 1958, in Martinsville, Virginia, to Jeanette Harger Compton and the late Paul “Jack” Compton.

Shelby graduated from high school and upon continuing her education with additional college courses, enjoyed a career as an accountant and bookkeeper in office administration.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald Taylor; son, John Wigington (Sherri); Stepson, Chris Taylor (Jessica); stepdaughter, Bonnie Harlow Menefee (John); sister, Karen Pryor; brother, Al Compton (Shannon); step grandchildren, Aiden Menefee, Cullen Taylor, Destani Wilson (Hunter), Chase Fitzgerald (Brenna), Malachi Fitzgerald, Grason Fitzgerald; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 2:00-3:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Bassett Chapel, 1230 Oak Level Road, Bassett, Virginia.
