Shelby Jean Welch

Shelby Jean Welch, 88, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 10, 2026. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Hawkins; stepfather Jess Hawkins; sister, Joann Lawhorn.

Jean is survived by her husband of 70 years Henry Welch; children, Ginger Erickson (Warren), Henry L. Welch, Jr. (Vicky), Danny Welch, Sr. (Debbie), Larry Welch (Vickie); grandchildren, Jennifer Dalton (Brad), Danny Welch, Jr. (Heather), Brandy DeCourcey, James Welch (Julie), Justin Welch (Ally), David Welch (Jessica), Kimberly Hart (Sean), Billy Welch, Matthew Welch, and Lisa Moyer; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Jean worked for over 40 years with her husband at Henry’s Auto Sells and HLW Trucking.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Good Samaritan Hospice and her care givers Barbara and Kathy for all they did for Jean.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 5-7 pm at Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Chapel. Services will be held Friday, May 15, 2026 at 1 pm at Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Chapel. Interment will follow services at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home.
