Shelvagene King

January 19, 1941 - May 2, 2024

Mrs. Shelvagene "Jean" Lowery King, age 83. of Eagle Rock, died Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Woodlands Nursing Home, Clifton Forge. She was the wife of the late Linwood Earl King who preceded her in death in 2023.
Mrs. King was born January 19, 1941 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Frank James Lowery and Hazel Richmond Lowery. A homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family, she would occasionally take jobs at various restaurants including D&J Family Restaurant, Hardees, Western Sizzlin and Quickette as well as in the cafeteria at James River High School. Mrs. King was a member of Galatia Presbyterian Church. In her spare time, Jean enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and eating out with family and friends especially at the Double C Restaurant in Covington.
Mrs. King is survived by a son, Linwood F. King and wife, Brandi of Salem; two daughters, Pamela K. Stinnett and husband, Greg of Buchanan and Marcella K. Campbell and husband, Andy of Raphine; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and a brother, Gary Hankins and wife, Denise of Cookeville, TN.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Lowery Schumaker.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 6, 2024, at Galatia Presbyterian Church with Rev. Cole Floyd officiating, assisted by Rev. Emily Hook and Rev. Robert McRae. Interment will follow in Galatia Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Linwood F. King, Greg Stinnett, Andy Campbell, Levi King, Austin Stinnett and Morgan Kelley.
The family will receive their friends on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at Galatia Presbyterian Church.
