Sherman Justus

Sherman Justus, 78, went to be with our Lord on April 23, 2024, at Sovah Health in Martinsville, Virginia. He was born in Grundy, Virginia, on December 6, 1945, to the late Marion Justus and Lucy Justus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, of 56 years, Cora Vernatter Justice; one daughter, Diana Justice Cline; brothers, Teddy Ray, Ronnie and Greeley Justice; and one sister, Lassie Church.

Sherman worked as a coal miner in various places. He was a handyman; you would often find him working on lawn mowers and televisions. He enjoyed watching westerns and listening to county and bluegrass music. He liked to cook and enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends.

Sherman is survived by one brother, Victor Justice of Hurley, Virginia; five sisters, Peggy Mullins (Shird) of Panther, West Virginia, Linda Little (James) and Brenda Matney, of Hurley, Virginia, Gail Dotson (Bobby) of Mohawk, West Virginia, Carol Hogston (Tony) of California, Kentucky; two sons, Teddy and Jeff (Tanya) Justus; one daughter, Tammy Justus McCoy (David), five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

There will be a floating visitation on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Samuel Leonard officiating. A burial will follow at Cline Family Cemetery.
