Shirley Alls

February 25, 1936 - September 8, 2023

Shirley B. Alls, 87, of Salem, entered her heavenly home and reunited with her beloved husband, on Friday, September 8, 2023. Born in McCoy, Va., to the late James E. Brown and Della Sutherland Brown, her family moved to Salem when she was four years old.

Shirley loved Salem, where she attended Church of Christ and was later baptized at the age of 13. A few years later, she met the love of her life in the halls of Andrew Lewis High School, and they were married six years later. Shirley was a devout Christian, a person of great faith, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She always had a listening ear and words of comfort when needed. A lifelong member of Ridgewood Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for over 30 years. She loved her church family and especially her friends in the Young at Heart birthday group.

In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, James L. Alls; her brother, James E. Brown; grandson, Ryan Koon and her feline friends, Cleo, Ms. Kitty, and Harry Potter. She is survived by her son, Jay Alls and his wife, Cindy of Centreville, Va.; daughter, Kim Koon and husband, Chris, of Richmond, Va.; grandsons, Mason Alls and wife, Laura, of Purcellville, Va. and Matt Koon, of Richmond, Va.; great-granddaughter, Avery Alls, of Purcellville, Va.; sisters-in-law, Lois Lanier, Dorothy Fralin, Mary Ann Booker, and Joyce Alls, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Ridgewood Baptist Church, with Pastor Roy Kanode officiating. Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation, one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment immediately following the service at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
